Oh the controversy! Earlier today the Daily Mail reported that The Duchess of Cambridge had visible hair extensions during a charity event, with helpful graphics (after the jump) to show how the hair trickery was perpetrated. BUT The Palace jumped right on that malicious lie and revealed that the mark in question was not telltale proof of a hair extension but a childhood scar from a "serious operation" Kate had when she was young.
Do we have a name for this yet? "Hair-gate" perhaps?
I don't know, is the possibility of Kate Middleton having hair extensions so horrifying? I suppose she has denied it in the past and now it is an issue of truth. I would probably expect her to have hair extensions, pretty much everyone in the public eye does. But I know The Royal Family is eager to keep Kate above reproach for vanity or frivolous pursuits.

A few weeks ago Clairol asked me if I'd like to find out my hair color alter ego and speak with Clairol Color Director Marie Robinson about home hair color tips, so I said sure! While I generally get salon highlights, I'm also a big home hair color experimenter (yes, I tried these dip dye pink highlights). I took a little quiz and visited their Try It On Studio to get a feel for the process before our interview.
It's a bit hard for me to review the Try It On Studio based on this experience, because unfortunately my "hair color alter ego" was "bubbly blonde" and the altered picture looked almost exactly the same as it did before. There was a subtle brightening, probably the result of all-over color versus the highlights I sport in the original. But by clicking around on their site I can say that the Try It On Studio is simple to use and really does give you an idea of how a new hair color would look. This type of technology has been around for a while, but the difference here is that once you find a color that suits you, you can find out exactly what type of color and the exact shade to go pick out at the drug store. Seems like it could cut back on a lot of "what have I done?" moments.
Make like Rochelle Wiseman this Halloween with a vampy lip.
We spotted Rochelle's vampy lips all over the winter catwalks. It's the easiest way to rock the '90s trend without digging out your dungarees, Walkman and Global Hypercolour T-shirt...

Although we want to look chic-ly scary at our Halloween party on Saturday, hearing that our Halloween make-up may well be toxic is a bit of a worry.
Researchers in the US are warning that many American novelty make-up brands (including face paints for children) use hazardous levels of cadmium, a naturally occurring metal which is linked to kidney, heart and lung problems, in the manufacture of their products.
Although all make-up in the UK goes through rigorous testing - and the research doesn't extend to products on sale in our shops, we reckon making your own is always the best idea. Plus, it's often cheaper.
This recipe for peanut butter blood is amazing! (Yes, it's from Blue Peter - their how-to's were always the best!)
After writing four fiction novels and a style guide - along with a blog, you'd think Lauren Conrad would have a sore arm. Not so, as we hear The Hills star is now penning a beauty tome.
A follow-up to Lauren Conrad Style, the book will apparently be called Lauren Conrad Beauty, and include diet and skincare tips, along with daily inspiration for hair and makeup.
We love her beauty site so we can't wait to get our hands on the book next year.
She's asking for 'beauty conundrums' on her website. Just keep those super-cute nail art ideas coming, Lauren!

Amber Heard has been giving us serious red-carpet lust for a while now, but this effortlessly pretty look from a recent premiere is our favourite so far.
We love the statement lips, swept-back slightly-coiffed hair, perfectly-plucked brows and subtle glow. Gorgeous.
Here's what to use to recreate it if, like us, you don't have a makeup artist on speed-dial:

Can anyone spot Peaches Geldof some eyeliner? Girl's gotta have her makeup. The gal about town was caught trying to steal foundation, mascara and eyeliner from a Boots store. Instead of being arrested or charged, like a plebian would have been, Peaches was simply asked to return the items and leave.
I hate to harsh on a girl with tattoos and a kind of trashy-chic vibe going on, I'm known to indulge in such aesthetics myself, but looking at that picture of her I kind of think "yeah, I'd believe she's a shoplifter." Let's class it up a little, Peaches. Don't you have 8,000 free eyeliners at home?
