Clearasil Ultra Deep Pore Cleansing Wash

ClearasilThis product falls neatly into the 'should have known better' category. You'll soon learn from reading my trials and tribulations on here just how temperamental my skin can be. It was perfect until I hit my twenties, and then suddenly decided to break out. Since then I've tried all manner of things to get it back under control. Generally I stick to gentle, natural products, but the promise of clearer skin in 3 days was just too much of a temptation, and I ended up giving Clearasil Ultra Deep Pore Cleansing Wash a go against my better judgement. Anyone who knows anything about skincare will know promising results in 3 days is madness since healthy skin should take about 28 days to regenerate fully. Still, I bought it anyway, buying into the advertising claims like the idiot I am. I believe the word we're all looking for is 'Duhhhh'!

I definitely got a result in three days, though...

Unfortunately said result was an allergic reaction that left my skin rough as sandpaper and twice as red and spotty as it was before. I'm always cautious of warning people off products that I've reacted to as all skin reacts differently and I was just one of the unlucky few...but I would definitely advise you treat a strong product like this with serious caution.

I never had reactions to Clearasil products before and I still think their Ultra Treatment Cream is one of the better spot-fighters around under the £10 mark. But this cleansing wash really messed up my poor skin. It was flaking off around my mouth, red raw and spotty across my chin and jawline and itched like hell for three days. It was the morning of day 4 before the reaction started, so I can only assume that was just one too many applications of the salicylic acid infused gel!

If you have hardy skin and suffer from spots, by all means give this a go, but don't say I didn't warn you. Not everyone will react like I did, but my experience shows you should be very sparing with the amount you use, wash it off really well and perhaps use it once a day instead of the recommended twice. Or give it a wide berth and try something with tea tree oil instead!

I've just read this thanks to your bank holiday link and I had to comment. I too had a horrible reaction to this stuff. After 2 days of using it, my face was covered in painful burns and patches of flaking coarse skin. I was in absolute agony and was petrified that my face would be left scarred. I wrote an angry letter to Clearasil and sent back the bottle. In return I got a Boots voucher for the amount I paid for the bottle, a letter telling me there was nothing wrong with the bottle of cleanser and the most miserable fortnight of my Summer.
