The problem with heat protectors is that you never really know if they are working or not. If its not, then by the time you’re left with a crop of spilt ends it’s a bit late to switch. What you can see though, is a difference in shine. Pantene’s Ice Shine Heat Defence Spray left my hair averagely shiny, and it held my style well. At £3.99 it’s quite good value for a heat protector so I’d probably buy it again, but combine with a more expensive protectant on days when my hair was going through a lot of heat styling...
For extra shine, celebrity hair stylist Sam McKnight recommends skipping diffuser drying as volume comes at the expense of shiny hair, instead he recommends pointing the nozzle down the shaft of your hair for shiny locks. Another hair-saver is turning the heat of your dryer down a notch, as a hairdryer which is too hot will roughen the cuticle of your hair dulling its shine.
