Yay or Nay: Cheap Cosmetics

Rimmel_2 Over on the forum, the general consensus is that cheap cosmetics are the best thing since sliced bread, but that we like to combine them with our pricey staples. And by cheap, I mean Collection 2000, Barry M, e.l.f - brands where products are generally less than a fiver. What do you think, are cheap brands worth the money, or would you rather save up your pounds for the designer alternative? Yay or Nay and why?

As for last week, votes were about even on false nails, but it seemed none of you cared much which way or the other as only eight of you voiced your opinion. Do I need to bribe you with videos every week?

    Hi,

I just wanted to say that the below comment about wet n wild cosmetics is true it is amazingly good quality. Its prestige products at affordable prices. You guys should check it out!!! They have a website and its also taking the UK by storm in most Boots and Newlook stores all over Britain.

    The website is www.wnwbeauty.co.uk

    Get shopping!

  • well all makeup is hit or miss if you ask me you have to keep trying till you find the goods, then stick with it, but you might becomme a makeup junkie like me, my only advice buy the expensive stuff, if you dont like it theyll take it back!

    YAY.

I love Wet'n Wild, which is the cheapest of the cheap where I am. My favorite tube of lipstick was less than a U.S. dollar from them. The texture isn't as nice as the $30 stuff I have, but it looks better and lasts longer. I'm also happy with their nail polish and blush, and though I've never found a mascara I liked, theirs is better than the Maybelline stuff.

My only complaint so far is that getting their pencil eyeliners to work at all requires exerting an amount of pressure that's downright creepy where eyes are concerned.

Since I don't use foundations (no one makes it in the right tone for me), I can't say whether or not theirs is worthwhile.

  • I like to combine things. I have high end and drugstore in my stash, and I use them all.

I think yay, but the quality is definitely better for most high end.

    Milani, is a different story!

Yay. But it depends. I have really sensitive skin, so for things like eye-shadow, cheaper brands tend to irritate my skin. I used to have some Collection 2000 eye shadow I used quite a bit, but it made my eyelids really sore. Although my Rimmel one works fine.

Natural Collection stuff is really cheap, but I have some of their lipstick and it's a really nice day-to-day one.

I use Collection 2000 nail vanish, but that's because I very rarely use it because I'm so awful at painting my nails. I don't see the point in splashing out on something expensive when I'm barely going to touch it.

Cheap perfume is a huge no. Smells odd, usually very strong and irritates my skin.

But it's an overall yay from me. I can't really afford the brands at the higher end of the scale, however I still like quality over quanity. There's some really dire cheap make up, but some surprisingly good finds.
