Ask The Audience: Lasting Eyeshadows

No_7_eyeshadow_1 Well another week's gone by, and still no one wants our help. But after the success of last week when you all shared your blusher wisdom, I feel it makes sense to pool our collective beauty wisdom once again. This time, long lasting eyeshadows, if I had a penny for every eyeshadow that didn't even make it to lunchtime, well, I still wouldn't be that rich, but I'd probably have a few quid. Personally I can vouch for Mac as my first choice, especially the pigment, Ruby and Millie's pens for eyeshadow ease and No 7 are ok for a budget option. All of which are pretty long lasting and actually contain some pigment, unlike my eyeshadow bugbear, Bourjois - yes the colours are lovely, but they're so wishy-washy. And don't even get me started on Maybelline and their mousse.

So...what are your top long lasting eyeshadows and why?

I do not use base as I try to avoid piling on layer upon layer on my face. Still, my dior eyeshadows last and last. They are fabulous. The texture is something else as well, soft and creamy, they are fantastic to apply. Another bonus is that they do not go bad after years. Unlike other big brands I have tried, like Lancome, which turned hard quite fast.

I love the B Never eyecreams and glitter eyecreams. They're liquid, easy to apply and stay put all day.

  • Nars powder shadows and Stila's lopse pigments in their All Over Shimmer Eyes have excellent staying power. I also agree with Allison about the importance of a primer - I love Benefit's FYEye. In addition to making shadow last, it also stops creasiness.

First off, I find that the secret to making any eyeshadow really last is to use a base. MAC paints are great for this, and help even the most sheer shadow last all day. Clinque touch base is another good option. But of course even with a base, you want the most pigment for your money. I am in love with Lancome shadows for their silky texture, deep pigmentation and fabulous range of colors and finishes. LOVE I tell you. :-) Clinique colour surge shadows are also very good - but don't even waste time on the old-style Clinique ones packaged in the silver slide-out boxes. They are sheer and wishy washy. Only go for the Colour Surge ones in the little mirrored compacts. At the drugstore, I find Revlon Colorstay to do the best, most pigmented and lasting shades.
