In the first of our Beauty Insiders interviews, where we'll be delving into the minds of fellow beauty obsessives, you can read the inner beauty secrets of Beaut.ie bloggers, Irish girls Kirstie and Aphrodite - who never fail to make me laugh out loud. First to the Beauty Insiders stage is Aphrodite...
What's your definition of beauty?
I'm not going to say anything corny here, like beauty comes from within... It's youth, fresh glowing skin, lustrous hair, a toned figure. All the things the beauty industry spends billions on creating and we spend even more billions buying. It's a dream of perfection.
What's your favourite budget beauty brand?
It has to be Max Factor - excellent products for their price range, look at
Masterpiece Mascara and some of their foundations.
If you could only keep one of your beauty products what would it be?
Moisturiser. I'd be lost without it. In fact, on a recent holiday, my luggage
didn't arrive at the same time as I did and the things I missed the most were
my Vichy moisturisers. Followed closely by my YSL Perfect Touch as the nearest
shade to match my skin in the Spanish chemists was a violent orange. Can I say
one more thing? My Lancome Artliner. Haven't been without this for years,
don't feel myself without it.
Do you take your make up off before bed?
Yes always. If I ever stumble into bed with it on after a Big Night Out, I invariably wake in the middle of the night and get up and take it off. I still have the Shroud of Turin on the pillow the next morning but at least my skin can breathe.
What's the one beauty mistake you see most often?
Bad foundation. There are so many pitfalls in choosing a foundation and people often fall down at the first hurdle - the shade. Too pale, too orange, we've all shuddered as they passed. Then theres texture - too thick, too heavy, too matte... Bascially a thick layer of orange pollyfilla plastered on does no one any favours.
What's your scent of choice?
Jo Malone Grapefruit. I love Jo Malone perfumes. Fresh, bright, zingy and modern.
Do you fake tan?
Absolutely. At the moment I'm loving St Tropez Everyday. Uber easy to apply,
no streaks and it gives a gorgeous colour. If I'm pressed for time it's Lancome
Flash Bronzer. Never spray tan - I've never seen a spray tan that didn't look
fake.
What's your number one piece of beauty advice?
Keep updating your look. Obviously don't follow fashion for the sake of it, but don't make the mistake of sticking to the same makeup/hairstyle/skincare routine that you've had for the last ten years. You can still see people with the same look they sported in the eighties - don't do it people!!
Do you have any bad beauty habits?
God, loads. Squeezing my spots, forgetting to wear suncream, drinking too much wine, not drinking enough water...
Do you believe in ageing gracefully or will you fight every wrinkle?
Yep I'll go down fighting. And never ever give up. Grey hair and wrinkles have solutions that work.
And, finally, who would you most like to kiss and makeup with?
Brad Pitt. I had to stop seeing him a few years ago (he was putting too much pressure on me to commit) He rebounded straight into the arms of Jennifer Aniston... But I'd like to tell him - come back, all is forgiven.
Thanks Aphrodite!
