Must Buy: Lancome Le Magnetique Nail Polish from the Gucci Westman Mystery Game Collection

Lancome_le_magnetique_nail_polish_2

If there's one thing that gets the beauty addict in me excited, it's innovation. Lancome's Le Magnetique is like no nail polish I've seen before. The deep burgundy shade can be worn as just that - a deep burgundy polish - but hold your freshly applied polish up to the bottle, which contains a magnet, and the magnetic pigments in the polish will form a pretty starburst design on your nail. Magic, huh?

The polish goes on sale at Lancome counters on the 1st September priced at £14, and I might just be there to get me a bottle!

To see what the starburst effect looks like, head over to All Lacquered Up where they've already tried it out.

Oh my God. I think I actually have to put this date in my calendar to make certain I buy it.

Do you think that if you use a different magnet, you can get a different shape? Maybe use a tiny magnet to "write" things in the nail polish before it sets?

I must put my name down for one of these! This is genuinely very cool indeed.

Kate - I don't know, it'd be good if you could though - you'd think a magnet was a magnet, right?

I think I might have to get one too!

Wow - it's gorgeous!

But I have a little problem. I looked at the weblink you provided and it's $17 - whereas here it's £14 (equivalent to about $28) a staggering 60% more. Last time I checked Lancome were a French company and we are way nearer to France than the Americans are.

BTW I get that tax in America is way lower but still, that's a big discrepancy.

Laura - I know, take a look on the US Sephora site and you'll see how much more we pay for practically every beauty brand in the UK than the US. Rip off Britain strikes again!

Bourjois is the only brand I've found that is cheaper here than in the US, even the Boots No 7 Serum is cheaper for Americans - no fair!

Will that be the only colour available? I don't usually buy nail varnish as it's not something that appeals to me, but after seeing Lancome's fabby product I really, really want some!

Posted by: Louise | July 17, 2007 10:13 PM

Louise - Yes that is the only colour available this time, but maybe if it's popular they'll bring it out again with more colours?

It looks great doesn't it! I think it would work really well on toes also!

Disapointment!
Went to Debenhams Wigan on 1st Sep (I was in town anyway) and the counter staff have not heard of this item. It isn't mentioned in the new catalogue of stuff for autumn/winter (I saw the staff copy) and during last week's training session in Manchester it has not been mentioned.
THe counter staff now think I am some dippy loon going on about magnets.
So what's the scoop? Is this product real and when is it coming? Beauty Gurus Charlotte & Gemma, please help a girl in need!

Louise, oh dear that's rubbish that your counter wasn't stocking it yet. It's definitely real, my info came directly from Lancome.

It's part of the Gucci Westman Mystery Game Collection, which, according to the press release, is all on counter 1st September. It's already out in the US, so hopefully your counter will catch on soon! I'll have a look around online to see if anywhere is stocking it yet online in the UK (although they seem to be a bit slow to get stuff online).

Slight off: don't you just hate when the counter staff know less about their products than you do and give you that "You what?.." look?

As for the varnish - I'm really intrigued! Found a picture in Russian Cosmopolitan, the results look quite cool considering all you have to do is to put your freshly painted nail against a little square magnet attached to the varnish bottle. I guess there are some magnet-reactive bits (pardon the terminology) that create something that looks like a flower with 8 petals. Just checked Boots website, not a word about Lancome Le Magnetique, even though we're 1 week into September - agrrhhh!

Just had them done last night, now we need many more colors and designs for the magnetic tricks ahead!I'll be waiting...............
