Non shocker of the week: Penelope Cruz is wearing false eyelashes in L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara Advert

No one, but no one could possibly have real eyelashes like this - no matter what miracle mascara they used. So is it really such a big surprise that Penelope Cruz was wearing false eyelashes in the L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara commercial? After all, we've already noticed that they appear to photoshop their lipgloss on to Scarlett Johansson, rather than apply it...

According to Reuters, the advertising watchdog have criticised the commercial after receiving a single complaint, saying that it 'exaggerated the effect that could be achieved by using the mascara on natural lashes'. In future adverts, L'Oreal must make it clear if the models are wearing false lashes, and they can't make claims like '50 percent longer lashes', as viewers may think that their lashes will actually be 50% longer, rather than just looking longer.

Will this mean realistic lashes in cosmetic adverts from now on? Call me cynical, but I very much doubt it.

It's one of those things isn't it that we *know* happens, but choose to ignore it and instead cling wildly to the hope that the mascara *will* indeed give us those lashes. Sigh...

I do actually think it's quite naughty of companies to use falsies though, surely that constitutes false advertising?

What mascara ads DON'T use falsies? Look at them carefully - they all do.

A lot of Japanese brands don't use falsies. I have used a few especially that have really really made my lashes ridiculously longer...

Jen - Yes they've been told they have to mention if they're using false lashes from now on. The beauty industry gets away with so much, when you think about it.

Keely - I know, it's no big shock! But like Jen said, I know I still cling onto the hope that it *will* make my eyelashes grow!

Megan - So which mascara gave you the mega lashes? Do share!!

I was just checking out a ad done for the new mascara
for Two-Faced. And it so totally unreal. They not only use fake lashes
on the model but the only way they could of been that deep & dark was
the adding of black eyeliner.
I think I saw the ad in InStyle MakeOver ?? Its got
the hot Ali from Heroes on the cover. Who is going
to believe that just a mascara is going to give you
eyes that look that way? Glad to know I'm not the
only one who knows the truth.

My lashes actually look like that after Diorshow :P And if I add black eyeliner I really do get the wow effect :P As for Telescopic it's actually one of the worst mascaras I used... well, unless someone is kin on a natural effect on lashes because it separates them nicely.
