Bio Oil - does it work?

Bio_oil Yesterday, while browsing Boots.com, I noticed Bio Oil was the best selling product in the bodycare section (above Venus razors no less), then I saw that it was sold out in Superdrug, and then, as if it was hounding me or something, there was an advert for it on TV. 'Huh', I thought, 'Bio Oil must be pretty popular'.

So what is it? Bio Oil is a treatment for scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone, and is also supposed to provide relief from dry, itchy, flaky skin. Coupled with its low price tag of £7.49, it's not hard to see why this stuff is selling out.

Does it actually work? Well, after reading hundreds of reviews, it seems so...

The general consensus is that yes, it can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks, although not always banishing them completely. People who used this throughout pregnancy reported that they didn't even get any stretch marks. It also worked for some people with scar tissue, and it most definitely is a good moisturiser (hardly surprising considering its formulation of Vitamin A and Vitamin E, Calendula, Lavender and Rosemary oils, and Chamomile extract). If you suffer from any of these skin problems, put Bio Oil on your 'to try' list.

My mum has used this stuff for years, and she had a big scar on her leg, after using that everyday for about 6 months, the scar has gone completely. Defo worth it, we always have bottles of the stuff at home!

No, for me, it doesn't work. Because it's suspended in liquid parrafin, it makes me itchy and very sore thereby completely defeating the purpose of it.

I haven't seen any massive improvements while using it on my scars.

I've used this on silvery stretch marks on my hips and it's helped. My friend used it on her psoriasis scars and it helped her. But watching Gok Wan's How to Look Good Naked, they reckon that Palmer's Stretch Mark Cream works better.

I have been using the stuff for about 4 years now, and although it fades the appearance of strechmarks the results are really slow.
