Poll: Do you tip at the hairdressers?

Us British are downright stingy when it comes to tipping. And although most of us will begrudgingly leave a tip at a restaurant, I don't know many people who regularly tip at the hairdressers. Personally I only tip when I actually like what they've done to my hair, what about you?

Like that? Try this: Poll: How often do you get your hair cut | How often do you wash your hair?

  • Bjooti - Of course I don't mind, go right ahead! It'll be interesting to see the difference. I have a feeling most of the people who selected the 'I tip everyone' response may be American!

Christina - Wow £10 for a whole day is really bad! Maybe I'll tip more in future!

  • That's actually a really interesting question. When I lived in London, I generally left a 10 percent tip (probably way to stingy), but here in Sweden, I rarely tip at all. Mainly because I've told myself that the wages for hairdressers are better over here, but I'm not even sure if that is true. Would you mind if I asked my readers the same question (but in Swedish though... ha ha).

I always tip hairdressers, not much mind. Most do have some sort of tip money box so £1 each to the shampooist/hair stylist wont break the bank. I also tip £1 when I get my eight year old son's hair cut also even tho that in itself is only £5, he is a fidget bum!

I worked in a hair saloon in my teens and the extra tips you get really made up for the crap pay! I used to get £10 for an eight hour day! Was much fun however, we used to practice on each other with the ear piecing gun and frequently leave work with totally different colour hair :)

Another question I have problems with, how much do you tip the taxi driver??

  • Gemma

I don't understand why we supposedly should tip certain people like hairdressers, taxi drivers and waiters...but not helpful shop assistants or librarians or something!!

  • Of course I tip! But as an American, we're taught to tip for everything... at least 20%. I just figure it in before I even spend.
