The Times Top 100 Beauty Products of 2007

Times_top_100_beauty_products

Even though it's only August, the Times have started listing their top 100 beauty products of 2007. First in their four part series, they've listed the top 25 face products. You have to wonder about the validity of some of these choices, as the panel of 'experts' making the choices obviously have selected their own products to feature in the list...

The experts include Bharti Vyas (whose face and neck polisher is included), Space NK founder Nicky Kinnaird (three Space NK brands are included), Susan Harmsworth, founder of ESPA (ESPA skin brightener makes the list), and Margo Marrone, founder of the Organic Pharmacy, and yes, one of their products is on the list too. It'll be interesting to see if this theme continues with Leighton Denny and Bobbi Brown, two of the other 'expert judges' when they move on to cosmetics.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with any of these products (to the contrary, many of them are very good), but perhaps a top 100 complied by results from independent testers rather than brand owners may be less biased. For this reason, I tend to trust recommendations by books such as The Beauty Bible more than newspaper and magazine awards.

Self-promotion aside, budget options that made the list include Olay Everyday Sunshine, No 7 Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum (natch), Neal’s Yard Honey and Orange Scrub, Simple purifying cleansing lotion and ROC 3 in 1 Cleanser.
