Review - Beauty Confidential: The no preaching, no lies, advice-you'll-actually-use guide to looking your best by Nadine Haobsh

Beauty_confidential_nadine_jolie_ny I've read a lot of beauty books. A lot. With the amount of beauty tips I've amassed from reading them all, I could probably write my own. So it takes something special for me to get excited about a new release, and when I heard that straight-talking outed blogger and ex-beauty editor Nadine Haobsh was releasing a beauty tips book, I was excited. I was addicted to her gossipy blog before it was busted, and for a beauty addict, there's nothing like beauty editor secrets to keep you coming back for more...

The book is based around the same combination of industry secrets and real-life beauty tips that made the blog so successful, and it works. Nadine's laid back style made the book super easy to digest, and although there is some preaching (cheap haircuts are a no-no in Haobsh's book) there's much less than is standard for this kind of tome.

In fact, she's refreshingly honest about her beauty laziness - manicures and applying body lotion after a shower are deemed too much effort, and there's tips for skipping these parts of your beauty regime and still emerging with nice nails and non-scaly skin.

Throughout the book about a dozen products are constantly championed because of their ability to do what they say they will. The short product recommendation list is not only a relief for the wallet, but reinforces the fact that you don't actually need six draws full of products to look good. Top picks include NARS Orgasm Blush, Bumble and Bumble Styling Spray and Terax Original Crema.

She also acknowledges (frequently) that beauty isn't actually that important, you know, compared to world peace, but if it makes a difference in our own little world, and it makes us feel good, then why not?

All in all, a great book for any beauty addict, and although you may not learn that much in terms of precisely how to turn yourself into a beautified creature (because there are no hard and fast rules), you'll finish it feeling like you've had a feel-good gossip with your beauty-encyclopaedia of a best friend.  And, really, what could be better than that?

Beauty Confidential is available for pre-order on Amazon now.
