Four ways to wear glitter without looking like a Christmas decoration
December is upon us, which means it's finally ok to talk about Christmas, and with Christmas, comes glitter. As usual, many holiday collections were packed with sparkle, and this is the one time of year when it's allowed, expected, even, to go to town with the shimmer. But, as with anything, moderation is the key. Here's how to do glitter without overdoing the glitter.
1. Restrict the shimmer to one area. Glitter is good. Glitter on your body, hair and body is not good. Likewise, if your eyes are loaded up with sparkle, tone it down on your cheeks and lips.
2. Go subtle. Shimmer is getting increasing sophisticated. Products like Givenchy's Diamantisimme and Guerlain's Forever Gold allow you to look as if your sparkle is coming from within. Much better than looking like you had an accident in the glitter aisle of a craft store...
3. Choose your colours wisely. Green and gold is a little obvious, and not necessarily flattering. If purple normally looks good on you, it follows that purple glitter probably will too. Not sure? Go for an iridescent sparkle - it's not too in your face and different lights will pick up different colours.
4. Use large stick-on glitter pieces with care. There's not many places this kind of look is appropriate for, and it's very difficult to get it right and not end up looking like a wannabe twelve-year-old.
5. Take the glitter to your nails. If you aren't brave enough for facial sparkle, test the water with glittery nail polish. Again, the smaller the glitter particles, the more sophisticated the look.
