The results of a recent survey by Halfpriceperfumes.co.uk certainly got me thinking - they found that 78% of perfume buyers had no idea what the fragrance they were buying smelt like. Wow. Somehow now it seems less surprising that some quite frankly foul smelling perfumes by the likes of Britney, Paris and JLo top the charts. The same survey also found that the brand, the bottle, the packaging and the accompanying advertising campaign are more important to customers than the smell.
Are you in this 78% that don't mind what they smell like, or are you in the 22% that would prefer to be pleasantly fragranced, whatever the bottle looked like?
Not only do I smell it, I try it on to make sure it matches my skin chemistry. For example, although Clean smells so good, it doesn't suit me a bit. About the packaging, well, it's the one that usually catches my attention and makes me want to try it on. However, I must admit that I bought YSL's Baby Doll and Britney's Curious for their bottles. Come to think of it, the perfume/cologne that I really like on me are the ones that are packed simply like Amazing Grace and Pure Grace.
Yet more proof that we live in a world populated by complete morons. No wonder crap celeb scents that smell no different to a can of £2 body spray sell so well.
I'm guessing that those 78 per cent are buying the perfume for someone else - no-one in the world would buy a perfume for themselves without smelling it!! - that would be like buying an eyeshadow without knowing what colour it was!!

I always use the tester in store and wear the perfume to see how it develops before I consider a purchase. The only perfumes I own that I have not smelled before recieving are ones my husband bought for me.
I wouldn't dream of buying a perfume without smelling it first, even if it's not for me.

Sometimes.
If I've heard good reviews about it, or it sounds like something I would like, then I probably wouldn't test it.
I usually find that when you smell it in the shop, it smells different when you get home, does anyone else notice that or am I just wierd?

I always try the scent on my skin to see if it suits me or not. I don't ever want to wear something thats horrible, seeing as it will be there until the next time I wash! It doesnt matter what the bottle looks like to me as all my perfumes are sat inside a cupboard.
