Treatment Review: Emerge: The Ultimate Detoxifying treatment at Dove Spa
January is here and I’m feeling rather sluggish and run down, so I decided a treatment was in order, something to boost my brain cells and get my body running a little more smoothly. Oh, and it would be a major bonus if somehow I could improve the tone of my skin. Was this too much to ask?
I booked in for the Dove Spa Emerge treatment, a special they’re doing just for January to help people cleanse the toxins from their system. They promised me it would leave me feeling refreshed and revitalised, but was this just hype?
First impressions were good, as I entered an oasis of peace and calm at their Canary Wharf branch. They have 21 salons over the country so hopefully there will be one near you. The therapist was friendly and softly spoken and led me into a small room where I was swathed in towels and a heater targeted at my feet. Soft music lulled me into a dreamy state, only interrupted when the therapist started body brushing me. And I’m not talking light tender caresses but hard core vigorous scrubbing that left me feeling rather raw. On the plus side such rough treatment really brightens the skin, and gets the circulation going. It also increases blood flow round the body and hopefully helps break down cellulite. You also get to keep the brush for home maintenance which is a nice touch.
Step two, yet more scrubbing, as the therapist got to work on exfoliating me from head to toe. (Note to the shy: If paper knickers aren’t your thing this treatment probably ain’t for you). Then I popped into the adjacent shower to wash it off, and came out to be swathed in yet more cotton towels. Now I got to the fun part, the massage.
She used fennel and juniper oils to knead me with, as these essential oils aid cleansing and detoxification. Juniper is meant to help clear the intestine, whilst fennel cleanses the body of toxins. This may be, but I know they smelt really nice, and it felt great to be gently pummelled with fragrant aromas. It was no ordinary massage either, as she worked the lymph nodes on my body, to help encourage drainage. I was warned to drink lots of water that afternoon, as I might get a headache, due to all the toxins in my body being moved around.
I did feel light headed upon leaving, but thankfully had no side effects, unless that’s what you’d call a glowing complexion and increased energy. Overall I feel energised and my skin tones never been so good. This is a great way to start January, and I’d recommend it to anyone needing a body boost.
