Our sister site in the States, Shiny Gloss had the good fortune to run into Patti Bunch recently and got the lowdown on her celebrity beauty secrets. Here's what they found out...
'We recently had the chance to ask Emmy-nominated makeup artist Patti Bunch , the VP of Education for Genie Beauty Products, some questions about how she keeps the stars of "Back to You" and "Greek" looking their TV-best.
Working with an actress with mature skin like Patricia Heaton, left, who plays Kelly Carr on "Back to You" is a lot different than working with teens and young adults like "Greek" star Spencer Grammer. Whether I’m working on "Greek" or "Back to You" one thing is the same, everyone wants to look fantastic and young no matter what age they are," Bunch says.
Her steps for achieving this fresh look include applying foundations that aren’t heavy but hide imperfections to keep skin clear, using Genie Line Smoothing Foundation, $40, for a natural and smooth look, and keeping up with styles and trends.
She notes that what looks good on younger faces - "blasts of shimmering color" - might not look the best on more mature complexions. For Heaton, Bunch uses "matte, natural tones with a touch of color."
To choose the best eye shadow for your age, Bunch recommends this test. "If your lids are tight go for the shimmers, if you have excess skin on the lids then stick to matte naturals [or there are great cream shadows on the market that will hydrate your lid and add color.]"
Bunch suggests MAC Cosmetics cream shadows, $16.50 as a MAC master educator, and also Genie Instant Line Smoother, $30, as an eye shadow base.
Bunch is happy to be back using these expert techniques on her stars now that the Hollywood writer's strike is over.
"The writer’s strike has been devastating not only to makeup artists but to all crew and vendors that cater to our business," she said. "It’ll be years before we’ll recoup from the loss."
"[Since the end of the strike] my phone has not stopped ringing. I’ve had many offers but I’m sticking with “Back to You” and “Greek”. They’re my family," Bunch told us. "I’ll also begin work on many pilots, which is always fun and exciting. I get to design the look from the conception with pilots [like I did for] “Will & Grace” which aired for eight seasons."
