Treatment Review: Blueberry Smoothie Facial Peel at Renew Medica

IMG_0962.JPG

When you visit the Urban Retreat Spa at Harrods it’s truly like stepping into another world. Hidden on the fifth floor you have to pass through a restaurant first, before going down an almost secret corridor, till you enter the boudoir like lounge of the reception. Seated with a magazine I await my therapist with a little trepidation- this is my first ever facial peel after all.

The lovely beautician Sue Trevaskiss puts me immediately at ease though with her friendly professional manner soothing any worries I had. We go through the standard questionnaire and assessment form and then I get ready to be beautified. I was a little unsure if 24 was too young for a peel, but she assured me the one I was booked in for- the deliciously sounding Blueberry Smoothie was in fact suitable for young skins, and good way of preventing fine lines and ageing. If I were having a course of treatment I'd be getting diet and lifestyle advice but as this is a one off we just opt for a skin analysis.

The Blueberry Smoothie is a low level facial peel which uses Chiral correction process to gently remove a layer of skin without any chemical agents. This a medical style treatment so don’t expect any frills or fripperies, as I lay down in a clinical room, and had my face essentially sandpapered. Relaxing it ain’t but I have to say the glowing results really speak for themselves. To start with we had intense exfoliation and then some delightfully smelling gloop ( active blueberry extracts to exfoliate the skin ) was applied. I lay down for around 15 minutes while all the magic ingredients did their work, and then it was thoroughly cleaned off.

Initially I was extremely red faced, but after a couple of hours the red died down and I started to achieve that dewy glowing look. I’d been warned that the full effects of the treatment wouldn’t be seen for a couple of days, and did notice some skin flaking in the days following. A couple of days later all was revealed, and my skin is clearer and shinier then it has been in ages. It’s super soft to touch, and I’ve also been treating it with more care. I was impressed with the quality and results of the treatment and whilst I wouldn’t make this a monthly event I reckon twice a year would keep me in tip top shape. Due to the speed of the treatment you’d also be able to fit this into your lunch hour- perfect for all us working ladies!

I am very surprised they would give you a peel without trying the other products to start with. I have been using cosmedix
http://www.cosmedix.com/
for some time now and they are really strong - the other products are supposed to be used to compliment any treatments you are getting -such as a peel. My friend just had a timeless peel this week and its not a treatment to be undertaken lightly. Did they not recommend you try the other products such as refine 4%?
This is the only patented product with retinol that is not on prescription. I also think that Harrods pricing for the treatments is OTT.
Timeless is availble at the salon I go too for 120 pounds
