Does Johnson's baby oil really deserve the iconic status everybody gives it? In the beauty industry Johnson's baby oil is one of the most popular and unrivalled beauty products of all time and has been an "iconic beauty favourite" for over 70 years. It is used by many celebrities and loved by women and babies as well as make-up artists. Even though all of these people are still buying Johnson's, is it still worth paying the price for just the brand?
Johnson's baby oil, Johnson's baby oil with Aloe Vera, Johnson's baby light oil spray, and many different varieties have been developed over the years. However, you can buy baby oil at a cheaper price from your supermarkets. For example Asda sell baby oil (300ml) for 99p. So is it the quality of the baby oil we are paying for or is it actually the name we are paying for?
Avent have produced a light moisturising oil which is worth £3.50. The price is much higher than Johnson's. Once the baby oil has been rubbed into your skin, can you actually tell the difference or is it the persuasion of strong branding? Is your mind unconsciously associating Johnson with the soft touch of the baby's skin in that advert we know so well or maybe the smells of our past childhood?
