Beware! Your lip gloss could increase your risk of Cancer
In summer months we all opt for slightly lighter makeup. We lather on the SPF, bronze up our cheeks, and gloss and bare it. But did you know that the lips are highly susceptible to the suns powerful rays- especially if you add something glossy which can attract ultraviolet rays! Dr. Christine Brown says, "When skin cancer occurs on the lower lip, it has the potential to be much more aggressive and metastasize to surrounding lymph nodes." Oh dear. So does covering them in gloss or balm protect them at all? Nope.
"What most people don't realize is they're actually increasing light penetration through the lip surface by applying something clear and shiny to them," Brown says.
So what's a girl to do?
One solution is to use an SPF lipbalm, as this way you get moisturising and protection in one. But what if you really want the glossy look? Well the Sun kissed Moisturizing Lip Gloss from from Hawaiian Tropic is a good call, as it contains SPF 25 and smells really lovely. It's available in two flavours and only costs £5.95!
