Givenchy's Autumn/Winter 2008 Make-Up Collection is Just Dandy

Emily Tan writes: Inspired by the 19th Century Dandies, Givenchy's "Dandy Collection" mixes and plays with masculine and feminine elements to create an elegant, edgy, and flamboyant look. This look contrasts a strong dark-toned smokey eye in masculine greys and purples with sweet, delicate feminine baby-pink lips and cheeks.

These elements are carried on through to the packaging, with the LE Pocket Beauty Case designed to appear like a delicately etched men's pocket watch compact. Retailing at £33, the case opens to reveal a pink and white pearly highlighter than can be used on the cheeks and lips.

The collection includes yet another Prisme compact by Givenchy called, appropriately, Prisme Again! Shimmer'Eyes in LE Smokey Shimmer and Precious Shimmer. Smokey Shimer has three dense metallic shades in blue, purple, and silver-blacks accompanied with a a matte white base (white polka-dots on black) to soften the look. The Precious Shimmer compact contrasts lighter gold, purple, and grey pearlescent shades with a dense matte black base (black dots on white background). When used, the polka-dotted surface disappears revealing the base underneath which can be used to line or blend with the other shadows to alter their appearance. Retailing at £27.50, the compacts are adorably encased in a navy blue compact enlivened with white polka-dots.

The rest of the limited edition collection includes:

• Prisme Libre in Dandy Beige (£30.50) - an all-over facepowder that provides a matte transparent surface.
• Captiv'Eyes in Dandy Black (£17) - a volumnising mascara.
• Magic Khôl in Dandy Blue (£10.50) - A deep-blue eyeliner.
• Rouge Interdit in Romantic Dandy & Fatal Dandy (£16.50) - pinkish beige and intense red lipsticks.
• Pop Gloss Crystal in Romantic Dandy and Fatal Dandy (£14.50) - pinkish beige and intense red that can be used alone or as a top-coat,
