SUPERchick - City girl fitness for the Bridget Jones in all of us!
At the risk of stating the obvious, I'm not the best when it comes to fitness. I simply have too many other things to do (you know, working, playing, drinking, shopping, sitting in front of the telly...) which is where SUPERchick comes in. It's an online training tool created for busy city girls, and it approaches fitness in a fun, quirky way...
With a site resembling an uber-pink locker room, SUPERchick has a refreshingly tongue-in-cheek approach to fitness. You can sign up for free to the basic service, which is perfect if you're already a member of a gym. For £45 a month there's the option of park training if you need that extra push and some support along the way.
Once you're signed up, you enter the 'Locker Room', which is an incredibly well thought-out way or recording progress and getting advice. You asses your body and fitness by filling in measurements, weight, resting heart rate and so on (this is what I like to call the 'reality check'). Then the site offers up loads of suggestions of how to improve (or maintain) your physique, including a tailored training program (some with comedy names like 'The Bridget' and 'The Break-UP Wake UP').
The Training Library offers up loads of advice on what exercise to do to tone up and slim down. Considering my gym 'induction' involved someone half-heartedly pointing to the changing rooms and saying 'there are the lockers', this is a really useful tool. There are even 'home' exercises that you can do in front of the telly (no, not 'lift remote, click button').
With quirky - and revealing - additions to the site like an alcohol points calculator (this week I've already consumed 10.5 units and 605 calories. Oops) and lunchtime menu suggestions, this is actually an amazing resource if you really want to make positive changes to your lifestyle without turning into a hardcore fitness fanatic. It recognises the fact that city women often live busy lives and gives them a way of organising their fitness and health regime from their desk. This is perfect for control freaks like me!
With so much still to explore, I've decided the only way I can really check it all out is to bite the bullet and follow a plan properly. From Monday, I'm going to follow the beginners plan and see how I cope (I might even give up the booze for a few weeks). This could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship!
