pure fiji frangipani body butter.jpgEmily Tan writes: Scents are remarkably evocative things. One whiff of this body butter scented exactly like fresh frangipanis and I'm back on the sunny, golden beaches of Port Dickson, Malaysia. I'm ten, sitting under a large frangipani tree and sewing the fragrant blooms into beautiful garlands for my friends and I to wear. As I massage the thick, luxurious cream into my skin, it melts with my body heat and releases the warm, sensual scent of fresh coconut milk and coconut oil transporting me to delicious barbecues by the beach where we feasted on rich coconut-laced dishes, decked out in our floral garlands.

Even without childhood memories, Pure Fiji's body butter is a therapeutic spa-like experience. Rich and emollient, this is not a moisturiser you can slap on and run as it takes awhile to sink into your skin - giving you an excuse to take a break and indulge yourself. If you have dry skin, you're in for a treat. This cream is packed with natural goodies to soften and moisturise. Nut oils to hydrate and lock in moisture, milk proteins to firm and reduce the appearance of fine-lines, and soy & passionflower to sooth and calm.

In the jar, this cream is quite solid and I found a little went a long way. A dab, warmed between the palms of my hands, emulsified and glided easily over my entire leg. It feels initially greasy and slightly sticky, which may be off-putting to some but those who enjoy using body oils will appreciate the feeling of intense hydration. Massaging this cream into the skin helps it sink in more quickly.

The first time I used this cream after my nightly shower, I woke up to silky soft, perfectly moisturised skin. The slight flakiness on my legs has completely disappeared and they now have the slight sheen of well-hydrated skin. The fragrance, while initially quite strong, faded quickly and disappeared by morning so it didn't interfere with my perfume. There was no need to moisturise again during the day and a weekend of use has left me with touchably soft skin.

The Pure Fiji range of body products is based on the natural remedies Pacific Islanders use to moisturise and protect their skins from the elements. The body butter retails at £18.95 and is available online and at selected spas and retailers.
