headandshoulders.jpgYou pick up all sorts via Twitter! When a friend confessed her new red hair dye was a bit brighter than they'd envisaged, another had a great suggestion on how to tone down the colour - wash the hair with dandruff shampoo.

Apparently this is a really old hairdressing trick. I've used strong clarifying shampoos to fade temporary colours before, but dandruff products go one step further. Apparently it's all down to the zinc pyrithione in many anti-dandruff products (including Head & Shoulders). It opens the hair cuticle, stripping colour quicker than other shampoos.

So next time you accidentally go too dark or bright, try this tip!

ps. Head & Shoulders also make a dandruff shampoo especially for coloured hair if you're worried about stripping a colour you do like!
