A week of bright eyes: Day 3 (true blue liner)

Day three of my bright eye challenge (technically day four, but Wednesday's sick day doesn't count) and I was still feeling a bit under the weather so I decided to go for something really simple - if only because it gave me a few more minutes in bed (yes, that also explains the hair in the pic below). I made the mistake of wearing a red and black dress which didn't give me much choice when it came to colour, so I decided to say 'screw it' and go for bright, bold blue liner...

The produce I used was a very intense, matte shadow from B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful in a shade called 'Birdy' (£8.50). I've had this since my time working at sister company Lush, when I actually used to use bright shadow every day to give a little bit of personality to my black and white uniform. Since then it's been languishing in the bottom of my makeup kit, waiting to be rediscovered.

Using Stila's mousse shadow in a creamy beige as a base, I applied the B shadow with a really narrow brush, pushing it into the lashes and along the lashline, blending it only a tiny bit, to make it look like smudgy eye liner rather than shadow. I also dragged it halfway along the lower lash and topped it with mascara (Clinique's Lash Power). Simple.

The look, despite being one of the simplest, was also one of the most striking. It got the most comments too (boys hated it, girls were a little more, um, subtle in their choice of words). Teamed with barely any other makeup except my usual mineral foundation and Nars blusher (don't leave home without your Orgasm, ladies!) I think it was a bit much. If I did it again (and I wasn't feeling so rough) I'd pay more attention to creating a smooth base and using a bit of bronzer and gloss to 'finish' the look. As it is, I think I look like I've rushed it, so sorry about that.

Without further ado, here's a slightly awful 'after' pic.
