The lovely girls at Shiny Gloss had a go with the Japnesque wipes, and here's their verdict.
I know I don't clean my makeup brushes enough. Some people say you should do it every week, but I console myself thinking they're referring to professional makeup artists. (Though, hopefully the professionals are cleaning theirs after every client.)
Therefore I was interested to learn about Japonesque Professional Brush Cleaner Wipes, $18/12. No wetting your brushes so they can't be used for a day or more after cleaning, wipes somehow seemed easier, quicker and more convenient.
As I mentioned, my brushes hadn't been cleaned in a while, so I gave these wipes a good test. See how they did after the jump.
While using the wipes was definitely easier and quicker than my usual cleaning method with water and a drop of shampoo, I don't think these wipes will replace traditional cleaning.
I used one wipe to clean a mineral foundation brush, a blush brush and an eye shadow brush, and the wipe was pretty much soiled after those three. I was hoping it would last longer. Plus I'm not convinced all the makeup was removed. I think if I tried my traditional cleaning method, some makeup would still come out in the sink. But I did like the feeling that my brushes were being disinfected, not just cleaned.
So I would say these wipes are best used for in-between spot cleaning and/or while travelling. They have a pleasant grapefruity scent and Japonesque says they're environmentally safe. I don't know if this means they're biodegradable or not.
I think some more scientific information like ingredients, whether the brushes are actually biodegradable, and the percentage of bacteria on a brush before and after cleaning would really pump up this product's claims.
