Scents of Time - historical fragrances launch with help from the Dragon's Den

Most perfumes have a story, but Scents of Time take it to a whole new level. Launching exclusively in John Lewis stores tomorrow, these fragrances are hitting the shelves with a little help from BBC2's Dragon's Den. Two of the 'dragons', Peter Jones and Theo Paphitis, invested in David Pybus's business, which saw him "traveling the world with archaeologists and historians to reconstruct lost perfumes from the past..."

David's being touted as "the Indiana Jones of the perfume world" thanks to the research he puts into creating these historical scents. They'll be launched at John Lewis in London tomorrow from 4.30pm, where shoppers will be able to get their bottles signed by David, Theo and Peter.

The big question, of course, is what do they smell like? The good news is we've got hold of Pyxis- The Lost Fragrance of Pompeii and Nenúfar - The Sacred Scent of Cleopatra to try out. So far I've only had a spritz of Nenúfar (from £45), and I was actually pleasantly surprised. I don't know what I expected from a scent inspired by ancient Egypt, but I can say it's surprisingly wearable, if very different to the popular fresh or fruity modern scents I usually wear. It's quite herbal and floral, with Blue Lotus Flower at the heart. Though it's not something I'd usually pick, it reminds me of the grown-up fragrances that are much harder to find now and will no doubt find itself an audience very quickly.
