The Red Lipstick Trial Day 4: Serge Lutens Roman Rouge
Day 4 of the Great Red Lipstick trial continues with the use of a deep ruby red from Serge Lutens. OK, the price is high enough (£50!) to make me gasp slightly, but that's perfect for the slightly open sexy lip look I'm working.
I'm getting the hang of lips like these, as my new trick is to line the whole lip and fill it in with a semi nude pencil (I like Urban Decay's version) and then put red over. It stops it bleeding so much and also gives it a nice base to adhere too. Made the mistake of trying to apply red over balm today- it just slid off and gave me weird two tone lips, so I wiped it and started again.
1pm. Have meeting with important tech guy. Am very aware I look quite girly today in my dress, and am worried red lips may be too much. It's often hard to be taken seriously in the technology world as a woman, and don't want too come across as silly and fluffy. I remove the lipstick and then get angry. At myself.
I may write for beauty but I also work on Shiny Shiny, a technology site and know my MP3's from my PMP's as well as my parabens from my peptides. So why do I feel I shouldn't wear red? It's my own neuroses, not anyone else's. I firmly reapply and then go to the meeting with a slight swagger. It goes well and I manage to use words like HSDPA and EDGE without stumbling, score!
6pm. At the gym. The lips don't really work with baggy joggers so off it goes.
7.30pm. On the way home. As required have reapplied the lips but looks a bit odd now with my red post workout face. Watch TV all night not caring if lips smudge.
