Day 5 of the Great Red Lipstick Trial and I'm starting to flag. I want to wear nude lips again! The attention is getting too much! Still, I bravely persevere and opt for a bright red hue today from Clinique. The colour is very flattering to my skintone, but subtle it is not, and red lips and self conscious gait look really awkward.

I get hollered at by some schoolkids though and that briefly cheers me up as I pout my way to work.

2pm. Some stunning lilac shadows from MAC land on my desk. Normally I'd be dabbing and blending away but I've found that with red lips I tend to stay with fairly neutral eyes, careful of not creating the Jodie Harsh/Marsh effect. They stay boxed on my desk, and I stare at them regretfully.

5pm. I've cheered up a bit and am contemplating a night at the pub. I slip on some heels that lurk under my desk and reapply the red lips. I'm getting so much better at keeping it on my face and not my hands/coffee cups/biro... I really feel I'm becoming more elegant and poised/ awkward and stilted.

7pm. Two vodkas down me and I'm rushing to the toilet to pee. During the wait which feels like forever, two women both compliment me on the lips, telling me how lovely it looks and how 'brave' I am. I'm surprised- I'd once again FORGOTTEN I was wearing red, but it definite helps you stand out.

8pm. Haha! just been served ahead of two people who were waiting. Did the red lips work their magic again?

11.10. Red lips now very smudged. Tired. Drunk. Going home now.
