Product review: Urban Decay Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup

Now you guys all know that I like my foundation pretty heavy, so mineral makeup and I always have a rather dubious relationship. Sometimes I can't get enough of the stuff, sometimes I'm just annoyed the coverage isn't thicker. I've been trialling Urban Decay's Surreal Skin and have to say that I'm pretty enthused about the coverage. It might not be the thickest foundation ever, but when you rub it in (the second thing I like about it) you can layer on the makeup for a deeper look, and it has a very nice finish, with smallish shiny particles that are light reflective. They sit on the skin and give it a subtle sheen which looks very attractive when pared with a rosy blush.

Ad then we get to the packaging- sleek and simple, with an included powder puff that's used for application. This is the part you'll either love or hate, and I'm strictly in the positive crowd. Depending on how firmly you press it different amounts of powder fall out and then you can use it to rub the powder into your skin.

Because of close proximity from puff to skin, this probably isn't good for sharing (hygiene reasons). It comes in 8 shades, which should give everyone something that will suit them and costs £17 from Look Fantastic. It's talc and oil free, but you do have titanium dioxide in the ingredients which provides the colour. That's OK though, as it doesn't irritate the skin.

I'm definitely adding this little beauty to my after-the-gym makeup bag, and who knows, it might even make an airing in my everyday kit...

  • I’ve had this product for a month or so and still have had no luck with the powder puff applicator. It’s not that it gives a BAD application… it’s that try as I might, I cannot get the foundation to come through! I’ve obviously set the clicker to open, and I’ve shaken it, banged it against my hand, even made sure the little holes are clear, but nothing… what’s your secret? At the moment I’m using a brush with it, meaning it doesn’t give me as much coverage as I’d like.
