Back from 6am run. Still feeling queasy and faint, but seem to be speeding up slightly. According the pedometer I'm using I managed to do 5500 steps - wow! I'm sure I've heard that 10,000 is an average days use and to get over half of that done with before breakkie is quite an accomplishment.
Breakfast today was sugar puffs without the sugar- but- wow- coffee with Soya milk. Found myself savouring the taste, and drinking it ever so slowly. I feel really sore and stiff but not as bad as yesterday- am I improving? Maybe...
After our meagre rations we were told to wear lightweight clothing and bring waterproofs so dashed back to the house for trousers and then lined up in rank. We were in for a serious SAQ session, and my arms soon felt like jelly as I punched, lifted weights and bench pressed what seemed like a million tons (in reality, only 9 pounds.). My shoulder was seriously starting to hurt as I have really weak upper body, but I persevered.
The next part of the day wad military trailing. I happily smeared on the warpaint, relishing in the feeling of wearing at least a smidgen of makeup. Hey, it had been a while. Happily attired in camo colours, we prepared to battle. We had to defend ourselves against the 'dreaded Devonites' from the surrounding countryside, and had to devise manoeuvres to protect us from their crafty hands. We learnt rolling, leopard crawls, and had to perform all of this under a strict timeframe. Carrying a 'rifle' (yet another 9 pound bar) we walked across ravines, crawled under nets, not to mention the necessary 'bang bang' noises as we gave our team mates cover from the enemy.
Lunch came before we knew it, and I tucked into a feta salad happily. I had a nice chat with the other girls, and surprisingly what they were having the most trouble with was, uh, bowel movements. Yeah, that's right... Not everyone was coping well with the low fibre diet. Hmm. Moving on (sorry!).
We then enjoyed an afternoon of good old fashioned fun, which involved bucket ball, a more intensive type of netball, cricket and a relay race. Everyone got very competitive, and it was clear to see who got picked first at school... and who didn't. I fell somewhere in the middle! My shoulder was really tight, so I had Staff Udall take a look at it. He's a trained sports therapist and kneaded the knots and kinks out of my shoulder. He said I hadn't actually pulled anything, just over exerted muscles that weren't used to being exercised. He made it feel so much better- I don't know if it was him, or the massage... (hey, a week with no boys OK? And he was in UNIFORM!)
Had the best dinner all week, an amazing veggie Bolognese that tasted divine. Went to bed full for once, and ready to take on the world.
