Lordy is it day 5 already? The early morning runs are starting to feel almost natural and the majority of stiffness has left my joints. I can't believe I'll be gone in two days- what will I do without rules, regulations and meals that are served to me at set times?
We have a cycling adventure today and we line up to get some rather hardcore looking mountain bikes. I get on rather unsteadily as I haven't ridden for a while and take a couple of turns around the yard to get in some practise. I manage to fall off the bike though, scratching up my knee on the gravel. I can't believe this- this is the training section- how's it going to be on the actual hills? Surprisingly fun actually, I can't believe I haven't done this for so long, I feel like I'm flying as I speed down the hill. Then there's the up part. Ah. That explains why I don't do this anymore, this is hard! Pant my way through the rest of the course, dear god! Still, it's good for the glutes!
We get given a slab of dark chocolate for a mid morning snack to help us recover our energy. Chocolate! Mmmmmm. Tastes so good.
Later we partake in more military training. Camo paint feels like second nature now, and I artistically apply the green and brown stripes in the most aesthetic way I can. OK, I smear it on, happy? As well as the usual push ups and circuits, this time we have to push a ten tonne van!
Broken up into teams of ability, my group struggles to push it up the driveway before running to get into formation for our army manoeuvre. Hey, our barrel rolls are second to none, and I don't even flinch at getting grass under my nails, I am GI Zara extraordinaire! I'm wearing my Suunto t1c heart rate watch monitor today and see how my pulse accelerates when I undertake strenuous activity. I've been wearing it all week and it's cool to see how my fitness has already improved in such a short time, as my resting heart rate is now lower than it used to be- a sign of better fitness, woo!
Today there's sweet potato to eat and it tastes amazing! The soft fleshy texture melts in my mouth, and the soup goes down a treat as well. Off to bed tired and happy, and even manage to read a couple of chapters before I fall asleep.
Check these out for the earlier days.
