Yesterday we looked at what ladies excelled on Oscars night, but today it's the turn of those who could have tried harder Whilst the ladies you'll see might not have achieved a D grade in their hair-wear, they all deserve a C, and a 'Could have tried harder', on their style report. Akin Konizi , British Hairdresser of the Year gives his verdict of the hair mishaps.
'It's a good job that model Heidi Klum is so gorgeous, because this look isn't working for her here. It would have worked well either worn down and looser or up and slicked back but the combination here isn't right and again too severe with the hard lines of the dress. On the opposite side of the scale, Jessica Biel looks as if she's made no effort at all with her half up/down do which is the wrong side of messy.'
I quite like Jessica's style, but I can see what Akin means- there definitely could have been more thought taken with that half up-do.
' I love Tilda Swinton's androgynous and pared down approach to fashion,' says Akin, 'and this look could have worked well but the combination of the hair colour blended with her skin tone and the colour of her dress is all a bit too neutral'.
'Both Amy Adams and Freida Pinto got the right idea with their low slung updos, however they were neither messy enough nor polished enough, but instead somewhere in the middle. For such a big event, they should have gone for a more secure and polished finish. Anne Hathaway works the updo and side parting once again and looks great, but we've seen this look time and again from her and it would be nice to see her change her look from time to time.'
'I love Sarah Jessica Parker's brushed out curls which look dreamy with her fairy-tale gown, but it looks a bit too static', said Akin. 'Songstress Beyonce's ponytail has been styled well with height on top and cascading curls, but it's far too severe for her and doesn't work with the dress.'
It's interesting to see how we need to combine clothes with hair, and that you nee to pay attention to all areas, as a great dress won't do anything on its own.
'Friend's star Jennifer Aniston's hair always looks shiny and healthy which is a definite plus but I'd like to see be more adventurous with her hair. Her small hairline plait added a playful element to her style, but she should have possibly been more committed with the plait to make it more of a feature.'
