In preparation for Valentine's day I decided I needed to do something about my ragged cuticles and the Bio Sculpture treatment seemed ideal. I've had acrylic nails in the past, and whilst they look wonderful, I really don't like how your own nails have to be filed down. The Bio Sculpture treatment involves no filing of the natural nail- instead they use gel overlays to create a fabulous manicure that's non chip and long lasting.

I headed down to the Hawkeye salon in Soho to give it a whirl, with the dream of fabulous talons in mind. And the verdict? Well, it didn't disappoint!

The lovely Laura talked me through my various options and she tidied up my nails. As she filed and buffed I decide I'd go for an oval shape, and that I'd have a French manicure. Slightly boring, I know, but I really love the look of French nails. And it's not like I was going to be stuck with it- as if I wanted a different colour I could simply paint it on top. As long as I used an acetone free varnish I'd remove the colour and have the perfect French below!

She started by applying a coat of gel, then I placed my hands under the UV amp to cure it, and the it was paint, gel and repeat. The whole process took under an hour, and because of the type of gel used, they were instantly dry, so I didn't have to wave them around for half an hour.

They look really natural, and as they're on top of my natural nails, it means my talons now have extra protection, so they'll hopefully get strong and long on their own! The finish was really lovely, and I thought the glossy look of the nails was very streamlined.

With my manicure sorted, now I just have to worry about what to wear...

Treatment costs from £35. I went to the Hawkeye Salon. 5 Silver Place Soho, London, W1F OJR, Telephone: 02072877977. To try Bio Sculpture at other locations call ring 0845 331 2347 for details of your nearest salon or check out their website.
