Product Review: SleepRight No-Boil Dental Guard for sufferers of Bruxism

Dura-Comfort_UK.jpg

Bruxism, or grinding one's teeth during sleep, affects most people at least some point during their lives. However for some (8-10%), like myself, it is an ongoing nightly occurrence, disturbing sleep and slightly freaking out your partner. Sometimes I can grind my teeth so loudly that I wake myself up and the next morning my jaw feels really tight, from the previous night's repetitive gnashing and sawing of teeth on teeth.

I often find myself relaxing into clenching my teeth at the desk or on the tube and have been trying to make a concerted effort to practice an exercise of "lips together and teeth apart" as advised. Since reading that my bruxism is probably stress related and can lead to loss of teeth, gum recession, headaches and many other related symptoms I've decided to try and address this issue. I ogled some horrendous photos of life long bruxism sufferers and decided that what was once a bit of a quirky, night-time tick is now a great cause for concern.

When I was given the SleepRight Dental Guard to review I was excited that an end was in sight. I think initially the price (ranging between £50 to nearly £80) is a bit off putting. Plus, it is recommended that to completely stop you will probably need to address other issues in your life, such as stress, smoking etc. However, the guard is very durable and easy to wear, and as discreet, as wearing what feels a bit like an upside down gum shield, could be.

After my first night of wearing it I did find there was an immediate improvement and my jaw felt so much more relaxed the next morning. In turn, I do think this made me feel much more perky generally. I definitely had fewer headaches or jaw pain during the first week and I found I didn't clench my teeth together during the day and that my whole mouth was much more slack.

However, after a week or so of wearing the splint I began to find that the band was irritating my lower gum and my boyfriend relayed that he saw me take the guard out during sleep. I cannot be sure whether this was due to my lack of ability in fitting the guard properly or whether it was simply repeated wear that had led to the raw feeling, however, I began wearing the guard less and less.

Despite this, wearing the SleepRight Guard for this short period of time has curbed my night bruxism, even while I am not wearing it. I have personally found that wearing it once in a while helps, and probably would not want to wear it every night; not just due to the discomfort,as it 's quite an inconvenience to put it in after a late night out or when you're very tired. I would definitely recommend buying one to other sufferers as there seems to be a limited number of products on the market and while I have not found it to be the perfect cure I was hoping for the marked improvement is well worth the expense.

The Sleep Right dental guards cost from £54.30 at Nobrux.

I have been looking into this & see they also have a slim version - which may be more comfortable for you. You can get them cheaper on EBAY, although I guess postage to you might make up the difference.
