The 5 Day Urban Detox: Day One

Today is the day my five day juice fast begins, and I'm having a tough time psyching myself up for it. My four juices for today arrived by courier last night, and I swig the one numbered Juice one questioningly at breakfast time.

It's quite nice actually, a delicate blend of what tastes like mango and pineapple and my spirits lift considerably. It's not quite the Frosties and Nutrigrain I'm used to, but I feel like I can manage this.

A quick check of my timetable reveals I'm meant to have had a cleansing drink first, but I'll mix it up and have that next...

Mid morning my colleagues look on in revulsion as I swill black powder ( a mix of clay and physillum husk) into water and gulp down as much of the concoction as I can stand. It doesn't actually taste too bad- more of nothing to be honest but the dark lumpy water is incredibly distasteful to look at.

Mid afternoon I'm booked in for a colonic at the Hydrohealing clinic, as the 5 day package I'm on includes two sessions. The colonic is intended to help flush out the system and get the bowels and intestine working more efficiently, but as you can imagine it's not a pleasant experience.

The therapist is ever so kind though, and puts me at ease and massages my stomach incredibly gently but I'm still ever so glad when time is up and I can swathe myself int he thick dressing gown and drink herbal tea in their comfy lounge area

A juice follows an hour later and then its another cleansing drink.

Dinner that night is a rather suspicious looking green filled juice bottle which turns out to be rather yummy, as it has hints of kiwi with a really warming ginger kick, I follow this with a supplement, and as I'm feeling a little chilly have some vegetable broth.

They provided me with a recipe in my pack, but said I could replace it with Bouillion which as it's ready made, I'm more than happy to do. The soup is thin but warming and it makes me crave more.

I got to bed around two, tired but still on track, and quite proud of myself for getting this far. Tomorrow I have to deal with a whole day away though, and I hope I'm up to the challenge.

I'm undertaking the Urban Detox under the strict supervision of the Hydro Healing team.
