Well, it's Summer and my New Year's resolution to start jogging and drink two litres of water a day has been a total failure. My Wii fit age is still thirty three and I'm pretty sure I've drunk more red wine than water this week! So when the girls from Bliss called saying a new cellulite busting scrub was being added to its famed FatGirl line up I felt like my prayers had been answered! In their own words it "banishes the dreaded lumps and bumps caused by lack of exercise and water". Ha! They also said it would 'scrub-a-dub-blub' but we'll just ignore that bit.
Read on for my verdict...
Their new FatGirlScrub is a skin-smoothing, circulation-stimulating body exfoliator that promises to even out bumpy skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite. Now I know we've heard it all before and it usually all ends in disappointment, self-loathing and a lighter wallet but hey I think FatGirlScrub may be onto something here!
It's made up of 60% Himalayan Pink Salt which according to Bliss is a potent ingredient in helping to boost circulation and when massaged in regularly can help reduce the build up of blocked toxins and fluids -one of the causes of cellulite. Along with Red Algae which also helps counter-act water retention banishing a bloated appearance and firming the skin. Admittedly it's not ground-breaking stuff but the key to minimising the appearance of cellulite is to also banish dead skin build up which can make skin look uneven. And if anything is going to shift it then gritty Himalayan Pink Salt will - this is one tough scrub.
The good news though is that for many of us our cellulite isn't as bad as we think it is. The dead cells on the surface of our skin can make the build up of fluids inside the body look ten times worse. FatGirlScrub promises to penetrate the skin deep down ridding the body of these dead skin cells that make skin look bumpy and along with its circulation boosting prowess it promises ultimately to purge your body of cellulite. Ok that's a bit optimistic but with two successful dimple-diminishing products under their belt (FatGirlSlim and FatGirlSleep) if it's smoother, firmer skin you're after then this is definitely worth a shot.
Which is why I have been giving it a go this week but as we all know products such as this need regular use to really take effect. Bliss even have their own mantra...'Consistent, Constant and Continuous'. This may be just a clever ploy for us to keep buying their products but they have a point. So although I must give it a few weeks of continued use for a conclusive result I can report I have been using it for the last three days and I've got to say - so far, so good! I have been massaging a small amount in large circular motions on my lower body and the skin on the back of my thighs already feels tighter.
I have noticed my wobbly bits look firmer but given the short usage time I'm especially impressed at how smooth my skin is. I often suffer from Keratosis Pilaris, a
common skin disorder, where excess dead skin builds up around the hair follicle when it hasn't shedded properly resulting in tiny rough bumps on the skin. I get it mostly on my thighs and it's a constant battle to smooth out these unsightly 'goosebumps' so I really am surprised at how soft my skin is feeling. If it has managed to smooth out my chicken skin in a mere three days then fingers crossed it's potent enough to scrub cellulite into submission too!
We're going to have to give it a bit longer to see whether it really will cure the orange peel but it's promising. Plus the peppermint and grapefruit extracts not only smell gorgeous but have a cooling effect which leave you feeling incredibly fresh, so it's a real treat to use.
I'll put up an update in a few weeks to let you know whether there are any drastic changes but given that the scrub has already sold out in America I have a feeling Bliss are going to make this a FatGirl hat-trick.
In the meantime I'm thinking I should continue to avoid exercise and drink more wine. Well if I drink more water and go jogging it wouldn't be a fair trial, no?
