Treatment Review: Wonderful Hair Extensions at Inanch Hair Design

In my constant quest to be slightly more Barbie-fied, I decided to try out the latest hair extension kid on the block. I headed down to Inanch hair Design in Great Portland street to try out Wonderful hair Extensions, a company that's quite new to the UK.

They use 100% human hair, of which they have a dazzling array of shades to choose from, but what really makes them special is the techniques they use to put the hair in the head- cold fusion bonds. This means that NO heat or glue is used when applying the extensions, which makes them a lot kinder on your natural hair, and the idea is this means they'll cause less damage to your scalp.

It also means that the application process is a lot quicker than traditional extensions, and the bonds are also shaped differently, so they rest flat against your hair.

I was greeted at the salon by the lovely Inanch who was wearing extensions herself (always a good sign), and I admired the fact that she'd kept her hair short but opted to thicken it out with the extensions.

On my first appointment with her, I'd had an in depth consultation regarding the system and we'd selected three shades of blonde to place into the hair, to give it a really natural feel. They were waiting for me when I stepped into the salon the second time round, glinting golden in the sunlight, and beckoning me over, with the lure of long golden locks.

To start with I had to have my hair washed and dried first to give the extensions a clean base to be attached too. This itself was a treat as the salon had a private washroom which featured an uber comfortable massaging chair and mood lighting- perhaps more suitable for a romantic rendezvous than a trip to the salon, but the head massage from the assistant was divine...

Once my hair had been dried, Inanch trimmed it slightly- normally a nerve wracking experience, but knowing I was having 22 inches of hair applied made it bearable. The Wonderful hair is processed with the REMIS system which keeps all the hair cuticles facing in the same direction, which means the hair shaft lies flat against you head.

At the top of each extension was a keratin bond, and this was applied by Inanch with the hand held applicator, which works in a similar way to a hole punch- bang, and it's attached..

An hour and a bit later my hair was 100 strands up, and looking decidedly gorgeous. Inanch then trimmed the hair to shape my face, so it would look natural and I was presented with a mirror so I could see it from the back.

She's placed the bonds quite low down on my head, which meant that they wouldn't show if I wore a high ponytail, and they were also placed an inch away form my scalp so they'd lie flat. That was quite interesting as others I'd tried had been right next to the roots, but she said this way of application meant they'd blend more seamlessly. The best part of the placement was that nights sleep- completely comfortable rather than the absolute agony associated with most extensions when they've just been applied.

She also gave me some Wonderful hair products ( a shampoo and conditioner) as well as some useful advice on how to look after the hair. 'It will last around 3 months if you treat it well', she said. 'Make sure you sleep with it in a side pony so it doesn't get tangled and use a wide tooth comb daily to keep it looking sleek and glossy'.

Three weeks on and the hair feels like it belongs to me- and the compliments are still coming in! My hair is really easy to style, and very comfortable to sleep in. In three weeks I've only lost three bonds, which is not bad going, and I think the hair looks fantastic- I couldn't be happier with this treatment; Wonderful by name, wonderful by nature (cheesy but true).

I tried out the Wonderful Hair Extension System at Inanch Hair Design , 220 Great Portland Street, Regent's Park, London W1W 5QP. T: 020 7383 7607. E: info@inanch.com. A full set would cost from £330 and you can check out more info about Wonderful hair here.
