REVIEW: DivaDerme Lash Extender

While DivaDerme's Lash Extender may look like an ordinary mascara, it's tagline "Lashes in a Bottle" is in fact the literal truth - open up the tube, and instead of slick black mascara, you'll find millions of tiny hair fibres waiting to be applied to your lashes. The idea is to elongate and add volume, without the need for gluing on false lashes.

The Italian brand have crafted the tiny strands with care - each one is infused with Vitamin E, panthenol, and herbal extracts, and they're safe for contact lens users. One road-test later, have my lashes achieved incredible lengths?

Application is a little tricky - when I first opened the bottle, there was a tiny snowstorm of fibres all over my counter top. So my first piece of advice is to open carefully and clean the wand on a tissue to create the best start to your lash transformation.

In the interest of fair testing, I decided to use Lash Extender on one eye, and mascara alone on the other, to show you exactly how much difference this product made.

The first step is a coat of mascara. Then, while it's still wet, application of a dose of the Lash Extender fibres onto your wet lashes using the spiral applicator brush. A further coat of mascara "seals" the fibres, helping them to attach to your lashes throughout the day. DivaDerme's advice is to use fresh, runny mascara, as this helps the fibres to adhere. I obliged by opening a fresh tube of High Impact Mascara by Clinique, which is what you can see in the picture.

The process can be repeated as many times as you like to create greater length and volume. However in practice you'll probably want to stop at 2 or 3 to avoid total spider-leg mayhem from occurring. You'll also be thankful for the included soft brush, which is vital for sweeping away stray fibres after the application.

As you can see, there's a definite improvement in length and volume between my left eye and my right. However, I found that it took quite a bit of practice before I was able to create length and volume without hideous clumping. It's something of an art - but once you get the hang of it, this product is invaluable, especially for those who have sparse lashes but don't deal well with tricky false lash application.

Verdict - a crafty solution for longer, thicker lashes. Takes a little artistry, but the results are definitely worth it.

  • Sorry to hear that some people had bad experiences with this product : /

To answer the questions about removal, it comes off with ordinary makeup remover. The fibres aren't sticky. It's the mascara that holds them in place so anything that removes mascara will remove this.

There are probably hundreds of applications in the bottle. It's stuffed full of fibres and you don't need many at all to create an effect.
