Product Review: Organic Surge daily care facewash

organic-surge.jpgI've been interested in green and natural beauty products for as long as the terms have existed, so I'm always excited to try out the latest products - knowing just how far this once tiny industry has come in recent years. So I was really chuffed to try out a product from the new Organic Surge range this week.

Like all products in this range, the facewash is made with organic ingredients (with bona fide certification from the Soil Association). Not everything in the products is organic, but they are all completely free from parabens, SLS, sulphates, synthetic fragrances and 'aggressive foaming agents', making it gentler on the skin and the environment.

But the good deeds don't end there: Organic Surge is also committed to supporting children's charities, with proceeds from sales going towards work in Africa. But what, I hear you ask, are the products like?

Read on for my verdict

You can tell this product is full of essential oils by the way it smells: definitely no synthetic fragrances here and instead there's a fresh and slightly floral aroma from the organic rose and geranium oils it's infused with. This is great for sensitive skin sufferers, as it's generally the artificial smelly stuff that our skin reacts to - so score one.

Another property I've come to expect from the more 'natural' cleansers is that most of them don't foam. That's not a problem for everybody and does not affect cleaning (some even say that foaming washes con you into thinking there's more 'cleaning' going on than there actually is), but if you do like a bit more of a frothy finish, the Organic Surge cleanser does foam a little bit. I like this as it makes it easier to see where the product is when you come to wash it off!

Sensitivity-wise, I had no bad reaction, no redness or itching from this product at all, which is rare for me, so it's an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin. It cleaned off my makeup effectively and quickly, and my skin felt fresh afterwards.

While this product is aimed at 'all skin types'; based on my trial of it I would recommend it in particular for younger skins or for those with a naturally oily or combination complexion. Although I found it gentle, effective and would use it again I found it slightly drying on my own (very dry) skin and had to follow up the wash with lots of moisturiser.

Overall verdict: a calming, easy and effective cleanser with no nasties that's ideal for teen, oily or combination skin and works well for anyone who's concerned about their chemical splash. Good value for money.

Buy it at Boots, Big Green Smile, Superdrug, Waitrose and various other highstreet stores. Priced at £4.99
