Runway Rundown: Marc @ Marc Jacobs S/S 09 New York Fashion Week

Whenever Marc Jacobs has a fashion show you can rest assured that the photographers will be busy capturing it, as what's seen on his runway will be reflected in fashion for the coming year. The bows seen on the model were definitely channelling the Gossip Girl vibe, and you could see Blair Waldorf happily donning any one of those hairbands; which I'm betting will relate to a rise in sales at Claire's Accessories. I was intrigued to see a punky neon sculpted lip adorning the pouts, as it's a nice return to eighties inspired shapes and colours.

The look was created using Shisedo products and their artistic director, Dick Page shares his tips on re-creating it. He says that the lips were prepped with Aquaphor, to provide a nice smooth base, but I'm sure Vaseline would work just as well. They used the Shisedo Perfect Rouge Fuchsia to provide that bright striking colour, and dusted it off with translucent powder to give it that slightly worn sheen. To keep the mouth the focal point the rest of the face was kept bare, with no colour on the eyes, just light grooming on the brows.

It's a very striking look, which somehow draws attention to the eyes despite the lack of detail there, and it's also strangely wearable. Make sure your base is flawless though- with the amount of attention you'll receive, you'll want to make sure all imperfections are covered. Now all you need to do is smile...
