Product Review: Blistex Lip Massage

The clocks went back this weekend, and suddenly darkness seems to reign, with chill winds hitting our faces as we leave work, necessitating the retrieval of those scarves and gloves. We might be able to winter-proof our bodies, but let's not forget that our skincare needs a little boost as well. The winds can be really abrasive to the gentle skin on the lips, removing moisture and letting them become easily chapped. This can leave you with flaky dry lips, which can be painful and unsightly.

Lip balm might help protect them,.but it would be nice to address the flakiness at the same time. The latest lip balm by Blistex aims to do just that by combing a groove shaped applicator tip in order to massage away the rough spots. But does it work?

It comes packaged in a standard chap-stick tube, which is slimline and lightweight, the perfect size for popping into a pocket. When you open it the ridged tip is rather strange to look at but glides across the lips easily. I tried to slightly wiggle it around the lips as I applied it, and I felt that it went some way to exfoliating the dead skin.

It had a really faint smell that's hard to describe, a gentle aroma of Mixed Fruits is about the closest I can get to identifying it. The cream has a nice thick consistency and due to the shape of the tube comes out in a really small stream, so you don't overload your lips. It feel really nice, and is created with jojoba oil and aloe vera to keep them feeling hydrated. The finish is quite matte, which is nice if you don't fancy a glossy look, and there's SPF 10 included for extra protection.

I wouldn't say this was the most effective way of exfoliating the lips, a separate scrub will produce more results, but for a budget 2-in-1 concoction this is pretty fabulous.
