We were lucky enough to get some face time with Dom, one of the big names in the styling world. He shared with us his tips on what to look for in spring colour and how to create easy to wear on trend styles.
Q. What changes do you foresee in women's styling?
The great thing about women's styling is that there has been so many influences and looks to choose from. I feel that with all the styling tools and products that are available women can become more adventurous and experimental with their image.
Q. How do you pull off wearing bright colours in the hair?
It's all about confidence, if you are having bright colours through your hair work your clothes and image to match. Careful not to try to hard and clash, your bright colour has to complement your look not scream for attention.
Q. What products would you suggest for managing colour damaged hair?
Sebastian Penetraitt Shampoo, conditioner and Treatment. These products will be the foundation on which you can repair your hair.
Q. What style are making a comeback, and how can you make them wearable?
Hair ups are making comeback. The trick is to keep them softer by leaving a few soft pieces down. When you put your hair up it is better to go to big and then pin it in, easier than trying to make it bigger.
Q. What styling products can't you live without?
Cant live without hairspray, in particular Sebastian Shaper Fierce.
Q Should you change your hairstyle during Spring, and if so what do you recommend?
Its always great to change your hair at the change of the season. You change your clothes and its about the complete image. This spring go for a wave (create by brushing out a curl) and plait or pin pieces of it up.
Q. What type of cuts will be on trend this year?
Sharp shapes with feature enhancing areas, such as shorter temples to open the eyes or layers that will enhance the check bones.
Q. What celeb would you like to get hold of- who has the best and the worst style?
I have always wanted to style Annie Lennox. She was a massive influence on my life in the early stages of my career and I always loved her style.
Q. What trends do you predict for Spring 2010?
Loving the updo's. Sleek, frizzy, soft or strong, lets get it up!
Q. What advice would you give to aspiring stylists/what do you wish you'd known before you started in the business?
I run my life by 10 two letter words... 'If it is to be it is up to me.' The profession is abundant with help and advice but you have to work hard and you have to have a goal, at the end of the day it is down to you.
In time I realised that we are there to complement a complete look, when I realised this my career started to make the progress I wanted it to.
