Minx Pedicure at Nails Inc : Treatment Review

minx-pedicure-review.jpg

There has been a lot of furore over MInx nails recently, and always intrigued by buzz (and attracted to pretty shiny things) I headed down to my local Nails Inc salon to try it out. I was going on holiday for three weeks and wanted something that would provide along lasting result, as chipping and flaking wasn't an option when I'd be hopping from beach to bar on a regular basis.

My lovely manicurist assured me that I was in good hands as she said that an average Minx nails application lasted anywhere from 2-4 weeks. So what is Minx exactly, and does it deserve all the buzz?

Putting it simply, Minx is a foil-like film design that's applied to the nails, heated under a lamp and then carefully contoured into the fingernails. It's a little like those stick on nails you used to play with as a kid, minus the damaging glue and strange rubbery thickness. The materials used in the foils are extremely light reflective, so you'll get a fabulous metallic sheen and the design rests easily in the nail bed.

I'd opted to have pedicure as I knew my feet would be on show a lot more than usual. Please forgive the calluses- I wear a lot of heels!

The technician trimmed my toenails down short, buffed them and then asked me to choose my favourite Minx design. At the time there were three on offer (lots more coming soon) and I was slightly torn with the animal print, but decided to go for a glamorous gold. The designs are on a strip of plastic paper, and each one was peeled off and attached to my foot. It was then heated and the technician used a special tool to press it into the nail bed and then filed away the excess.

I was surprised at how quickly it was done- a normal pedicure is about an hour, with extra time needed for drying, but these were instantly dry- as they were never wet, so no smudging to worry about.

I was told that I could come in for a removal or do it myself, as after about three weeks they might start to peel, and all I needed to do was roll it from side to side to loosen it, use a hairdryer to soften it and then just pick it off. I could also use a blowdryer and pressure to reseal them if they started to come loose.

I loved how opulent my nails looked and enjoyed how they winked lovingly out of my flip flops. As I trotted around Thailand I attracted many admiring glances and comments- with everyone having a very positive reaction to my tootsies.. Long live Minx!

The result!

Oh no, it's like the pedicure equivalent of Goldie's teeth! I can imagine liking some of the other colours but gold looks really tacky to me.

I haven't tried this, but I like the look of the metallic finish and the idea of it lasting up to 4 weeks.

I had a silver Minx done at Nails Inc HOF in Birmingham and it lasted 6 weeks - well in fact it was still on after 6 weeks but had grown out a little bit to much. Its a great treatment
