Purifyne Juice fast Detox: The Detox Diaries

purifyne_review.gif

With less than a week to go till Valentine's day, some of you may be starting to stress about fitting into that trusty LBD. Well, never fear, there's a way to look glowing and ravishing on the night that doesn't involve going under the knife. The Purifyne Juice fast Detox is a way to revitalize you body and soul, as it promises to clear up your complexion, streamline your digestion ( which will make you look slimmer) and supercharge your metabolism.

Purifyne is a drink detox system which allows you a certain number of vegetable and fruit juices a day, as well as a variety of pills and supplements to aid your body in cleansing itself. The idea is that a week without solid food will help your body kick start its digestive system and deep cleanse it of nasties and toxin build ups. A pleasant side effect of this is clearer skin and a slimmer silhouette, so this could be a great way for someone looking to start upon a healthier lifestyle.

Prior to the programme you're advised to start cutting out fatty foods, to allow the digestive system a chance to purify. I also met with Irina, the incredibly glamorous owner, who talked me through my favourite food groups, and how to adjust to this diet. She says she partakes in it twice a year, and finds it is refreshing and revitalizing. As she was in great shape, I hoped this would work for me.

Day One

Today a package of five juices and various supplements was delivered to my door, which I peered at suspiciously. The bottles were large and clearly labelled with the ingredients, I just wasn't sure I could stomach that much carrot juice. I'd highlighted what juices I disliked in my sign up survey, so the packs were thankfully free of anything mushroom related, and I really liked that they were tailored to you that closely.

The courier service was also a nice perk, as this meant you simply refrigerated the products and then didn't think about them. The array of vitamins looked slightly bewildering, but the pack came accompanied with a cheat sheet, telling you when and how to take them, as well as an enema kit for a recommended twice daily flushing of the system.

The day started with hot water and lemon followed by a multivitamin, bentonite clay capsules, superfood mix and Psyllium Husk Powder. The Psyllium husk powder was the hardest to take as it had to be mixed with juice and drunk quickly before it congealed.

The day passed quickly, with the novelty of just drinking juice fending off any hunger pangs. The drinks were surprisingly filling, and as I was told to sip regularly I had a lot of green tea and mineral water as well. I did need to go to the toilet a whole lot more (unsurprisingly) but found that manageable.

Problems arose when I met friends for a quick drink int he pub, as they sat there with their wine and me with green tea. Hunger and jealousy pangs struck hard- but I was saved with a thoughtful text from Irina telling me to stay strong and focus.

Day 2

I'm starting to enjoy having hot water and lemon first thing, as it doesn't dehydrate me the way coffee does. My stomach already looks flatter, but that could just be the way I angle my body in the mirror. My morning juice was a rather lovely blend of apple and melon, which went down a treat, and I supped on coconut water mid morning for a nice sugary kick. Coconut water is much healthier than coconut juice, and is provided in the pack that you get sent.

You're encouraged to go the gym and exercise lightly as well as use the sauna but my energy levels were quite low, so I only made it as far as the sauna. I'm quite enjoying the feelings of healthy smugness and skipped down the street, away from inviting coffee shops and patisseries with barely a twinge.

I've been going to bed a lot earlier, as have decided to try and avoid all drinking establishments- which makes me realize how much my social life revolves around alcohol- I think I need a new hobby. A nice bath and a book, and then it's lights out for me.

The Purifyne programme costs £79 for one day, and £295 for one week, with options of 5 days or 14 days to choose from.

Ooh, this sounds really hard to keep to! I'm looking at detoxing and unsure which one to try- will follow your tale with interest. I like that they let you choose the ingredients though, as I'm very picky.
