Product Review: Olay Total Effects Day Moisturiser SPF 15

olay-total-effects-day.jpgYou might well point out that there's not much need for sunscreen just now with spring still running fashionably late, but any anti-ageing moisturiser worth its salt will have built-in protection from the sun, which is, after all, the biggest culprit in drying out and discolouring our skin.

But that's all beside the point, which is that Olay's Total Effects Day Moisturiser is definitely one of the good guys if you're looking for a low to mid-range price that's easy to grab and replace on the high street. I've only been using it for two weeks, but what's struck me about this moisturiser so far is that it gives something I've not personally experienced beore: instant results. I'd heard a fair bit of hype about it, but was pleasantly surprised to find that the product lived up to it.

I'm not sure how fantastic this product is at actually 'rejuvenating' the skin at a deeper level, but the appearance it creates on application is enough of a selling-point for me. Tired, dry and rapidly ageing skin (that's me after a bad day at the office) is quickly quenched, transformed to being more youthful and vibrant-looking after a few dabs. My skin picks up the light in a different way once I've applied this moisturiser, and seems to keep up that dewy sheen for the rest of the day.

The other quality of this product that I love is it's a comforting, soothing rich cream that I feel comfortable using several times a day: it doesn't tighten or numb the skin the way some anti-ageing creams do, so can be used liberally, in the same way I'd use my trusty tube of Nivea or E45.

I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone with oily skin, as it does create an oilier tone with a subtle shine to it that's great for sprucing up dull skin, but could look greasy on skins that are more naturally moist.

All my life, I have simply stuck to the skin care regimen of washing my face gently with a generic moisturizing soap and water. I've always been told that I have great skin...never really had any acne to speak of, not age spots (freckles-a-plenty, but that comes with light skin & red hair). I have just turned 29, and am often mistaken for 21 by people of all ages. Though, since I've always enjoyed nice skin, I thought at my age, I might need to start doing something more to maintain that from here-on-out.

Enter Olay total effects...

I used this product for 2 days in the mornings, only applying a tiny amount to my face...

This morning, I wake up, and find my usually-perfectly smooth, virtually pore-free skin to be...BUMPY! I almost started crying then and there. Is THIS what I get for trying to take care of my skin??? I'm switching back to my old regimen of simple soap & water. I would NEVER RECOMMEND this product to anyone. If it can do this to MY skin - which has never had an allergic reaction in my ENTIRE LIFE - I can't imagine what it might do to someone with sensitive or temperamental skin!

A definite do NOT buy in my book!!!!

Actually I'm having bad experiences with that product too... I'm having a more sensitive skin and I got red, aching spots and little blisters after one week I used it! I was not happy at all with that!
Since this happened I'm kind of careful with anti-aging products! I think some of them are really aggressive to sensitive skin... Btw: Is there anbody who can recommand a good anti-ageing-product for sensitive skin? A friend told me about a new german brand called "Dr. Duve" but I'm suspicous now... Especially bcs its with hyaluronic acid... Has anybody experiences with that brand or generally with sensitive skin and hyaluronic acid?
Would be interessting to know!
Thanks a lot!
