Permanent Makeup* is a great way to create a long lasting look that doesn't require hours of fiddling around with eyebrow pencils and eyeliners. Popularity has risen in the last couple of years as techniques have improved, so people realize they're not going to get results that look unnatural or drawn in.

Well, this field has just taken a giant step forward as the fabulous Dunja Ghag has created a new way of applying permanent makeup that is even more natural, and the service is called 3D brows. We managed to get some time with her to quiz her about this new treatment.

Why did you create the 3D Brows treatment?

These days it is increasingly important to look perfectly - and natural - think how celebs are going to cope with HD TV for example. I trained in North America, where the cosmetic world is much further advanced, so I already knew that my even my basic methods were far superior to anything being done in the UK.

But I wanted to take things even further and create a new technique to give the ultimate natural looking permanent makeup. Unlike most permanent makeup technicians, I am also trained and experienced in working as a professional makeup artist. Therefore I am use to analysing faces and colouring to bring out the natural beauty of each individual. So I began to translate what I had learned to do with everyday eyebrow makeup into carefully creating and correctly placing very fine strokes using the pigment to look like hairs, blending in several shades to create the 3D effect.

The old-style single colour permanent eyebrows only used one colour, often a garish, unnatural one, and merely "filled in" a brow shape. They often looked "painted on" and clown-like. Cindy and I have both seen many devastated clients whose lives have been blighted with eyebrows like those.

Question: Can this new treatment be used to correct badly done permanent makeup?

Dunja: Most definitely. This can help even out faded, discoloured permanent makeup. However if the existing permanent makeup has been placed where it should not have been, no one can correct it. This is why it's so crucial that women are aware of the ability and results from their chosen technician.

Question: How long do the results last- is the same amount of time?

Dunja :The results last from 12 months up to 4 years, the same as the old style permanent makeup. Touch ups will be required depending on each individual's metabolic rate, as the body eventually metabolises the pigment over time.

Question: What are the benefits of working this way?

Dunja:You get an amazingly realistic hair-like result on the eyebrows. With permanent makeup having a such bad reputation, for the very first time this is an undetectable treatment.

People often overlook how important eyebrows are to overall facial composition. They frame and bring out the beauty of the eyes in a way that no other facial feature can.
Overplucking and hair loss with age or medical conditions can take their toll. It is a treatment that men can equally benefit from.

Question: Does the new 3D treatment cost more than the other version?

Dunja: I use only the finest, long-lasting pigments and my technique requires specialised skill, yet it is only marginally more expensive than the old style treatment.

Question: Will you be training people in this technique?

Answer: Not at the moment, but I may well do in future if time permits. Presently I am the only technician who is fully trained and experienced in this technique.

*Permanent makeup is the commonly associated term used for semi permanent makeup, which lasts approximately 1-3years. I use the term Permanent as this is how it is labelled on the market, but wanted to clear up any confusion.
