Adrien Allen.JPGSummer is in the air, and as well as baring our limbs and slathering on the SPF, thoughts are turning towards our haircare, and how we can adapt our style for the coming months, We were lucky enough to grab some time with Adrian Allen from Adrian Allen Addicted and quizzed him about his colour predictions and how to style beach hair.

What changes do you foresee in colour styling?

Colour is following the texture trend we're seeing in haircuts. We are working on more texture enhancing techniques, contrasting panels inside the hair to enhance the shine when the hair is straight and giving the illusion of voluptuous hair when it's curled. Summer is going to be a sexy time for colour with lightened ends and pastel washes for the blondes and burnt veneers of browns, reds and coppers for the brunettes. Colour has to be changeable after all we want to be chameleons this summer.

What colours will be on trend this year?

Reds fused with coppers are big this year. I love the fiery colours as there is something about a redhead that sets them aside from the norm. I'm working with a lot of jewel colours at the moment ie ruby reds to sapphire blues so I think that the darker heads will be very strong towards Autumn. The nude and chiffon tones for blondes are stunning and I think every blonde should be looking at an injection of colour on their hair but just keep it soft and powdery

What tips do you have for styling your hair on the beach?

The beach is the best place to treat your hair to some luxury believe it or not! Rather than use styling products, I always recommend that my clients use the BC Bonacure Suncare Spray Conditioner and the BC Bonacure Aftersun Treatment when they're on the beach. If you wet your hair with clean water at the beach shower and spray the BC Suncare Conditioner on and twist the hair into one or multiple ponytails it will stop your hair soaking up the salt water. Then once you've done your sun worshiping your hair will be almost dry so you can let it loose to reveal beautiful beachy waves. Simply scrunch some of the BC Bonacure Aftersun Treatment and some colourful beach inspired accessories to keep it interesting. On shorter hair the Aftersun Treatment will give you enough control with a beachy hot breeze to allow you to quiff, slick or wave your hair off your face.

What do you think about hair extensions?

As hair extensions I hate them, I'm a purist when it comes to hair so I hate not being able to comb the hair from the root. I have tried to like them but it's just not my thing! I love working with hairpieces, wigs and wefts in a creative way though.
Gaga_hair.jpg
Which celeb would you like to get your hands on?

It has to be Lady Gaga - I would have so much fun with her hairstyles. I'd never be bored creating for her. I also love Florence from Florence and the Machines hair at the moment, it is stunning as I love the colour, the curls and the fringe. I don't like Cheryl Coles hair, it's too prissy and girly in my opinion. Cheryl needs a serious restyle!

bonacure.jpg What products would you suggest for managing colour damaged hair?

My favourite products - there are so many! Well it has to be BC Bonacure Repair Shampoo to add strength, BC Color Save conditioner for everyday use to keep the colour locked in with BC Moisture Kick Recharge treatment once or twice a week to give the hair flexibility and that 'new hair' feel. I'd also recommend using BC Colored Ends every time the hair is washed to keep those ends in tip top condition. This will give the damaged hair the protein and moisture it needs to feel great again and prepare the hair for styling. I would never ever put a dryer near damaged hair without putting the right OSiS Styling product on for the result I need, so much damage comes from not using the correct styling product.

What styling products can't you live without?

Body Me is my new best friend, it's so sexy!!! It gives the hair so much body and texture. I love to add more to the ends of the hair when it's almost dry to give the hair chunky sexy texture. I also love Miracle Hold - I love the velvety, voluptuous feel it gives to hair, for me to be able to touch hair and feel the surface texture and trust the hold of the styling product puts Miracle Hold in my friends list!

How do you treat a client who has thinning hair and wants it coloured?

If the thinning is natural and not due to any other factors that could be worsened by colour services, I would work with a 3D effect, which if the hair has long layers then I would start by using a deeper colour in the underneath and then step up through a shade as I worked up the head shape usually using 3 colours and possibly scatter some lights on the top area to disguise the scalp area. If the hair has short layers I would work again with 3 shades from root to tip, using the deeper shade towards the scalp to create a shadow effect which makes the hair appear thicker.
