Getting rid of body hair must be one of the most time-consuming parts of your beauty regime. Having tried a dozen different methods with varying results, I've mainly stuck to the standard razor option, but I've always fancied trying one of the more permanent options. So, when I was given the chance to review the iPulse Smooth Skin IPL system from Boots to try at home, I happily agreed to give it a try.
The iPulse Smooth Skin IPL system is a compact machine that consists of a base with two control panels, and a handset that emits a short, intense pulse of filtered light. The system works when the light is absorbed by the coloured pigments in and surrounding the hair and it disables the hair follicle, helping to prevent hair re-growth.Using it is fairly simple, if a little messy.
• Shave/trim area.
• Apply the provided Activation Gel
• Choose your heat level (you'll find the suitable one for your skin in the book) and switch it
over to 'ready'. The fairer your hair, the higher the heat level.
• Apply the headset to an area of hair you want to target. It's recommended to try it under your arms first as you'll see the results faster. Once the four pins on the headset touch skin, a red light will signal it's ready.
• Hit the button!
I've been using the iPulse Smooth Skin system for six weeks now and I can see a reduction in hair growth generally and some areas where hair has simply stopped growing. It's not cheap, but having a full course in a salon would be a whole lot more expensive. It's also relatively pain-free and very quick to use. In terms of downsides, it's a bit messy using the Activation Gel and it covers a fairly small area so you'll have to keep an eye on the areas you've already done.
