Colouring your hair at home can be an absolute nightmare, as you have spillage, dripping and awkwardness to deal with, and no one likes playing hair yoga whilst in the bathroom. You have cream to measures, hair to separate, it's all a bit tricky, really, and means a lot of people just go to salons as they can't bear the hassle.
John Frieda have realized this, which is why it has taken them so long to bring out a home hair colour, as they wanted something game changing, that didn't just follow the normal route. Did they succeed? Well, yes. It's a fiendishly simple idea, and you wonder why someone hasn't done it already- which is the hallmark of a great idea. They have created the John Frieda Precision Foam Colour, a hair colour which isn't liquid, but foams.
This means no drips, no mess, and no perching on the bath for an hour! It also makes it a lot easier to apply as you can massage it into the hair, and the foam expands all over the roots. You simply mix the developer with the colourant, and gentle tip the bottle (no shaking needed) to mix the colour and then pump away. It's surprising how much foam you get, which makes it more cost effective, as those who have to use two bottles only need to use one.
I watched a girl apply this to her hair and was surprised by how simple the process was. Standing in the lounge of a hotel suite she happily mixed and applied the solution, and was done in under ten minutes. A regular home application takes over half an hour on average, and involves ten times more mess.
Don't expect to get any really dramatic changes with this dye, as the advice is to opt for two shades lighter or darker- any more will be a longer process involving pre lightening etc, so this is more of a top up/ cover grey routine than a crazy, 'Brown to blonde' experience.
It's available in 20 great natural shades, and covers redheads, brunettes and blondes (tying in with their hair product line). Annoyingly, it does feature ammonia, which is due to the fact that John Frieda believe you can't get a salon quality home product without it (for now), so just bear that in mind.
