If you're one of the millions of woman doing anything to keep ageing at bay, you might like this news: an over-the-counter anti-ageing laser that you can use at home is being prepared to enter the market.
Palomar Medical Technologies Inc., a developer of cosmetic laser and intense-pulsed light devices for professional use, have introduced the handheld PaloVia Skin Renewing Laser - the first device to be cleared for home use by the American FDA.
The laser claims to reduce fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, and could also be used to reduce acne scars, lighten brown spots, and extend the effect of Botox injections.
So how does it work? Well, a microbeam of concentrated light is used to irritate deep layers of the skin and trigger the production of collagen. This laser is applied in half-inch intervals along wrinkles, and an automatic shut-off device prevents users from activating more than 25 scans in an eight-hour period. In a clinical trial, 92 percent of participants had visible improvement after applying the fractional laser once a day for 30 days.
"We've had a very positive response from retailers, and when we have the product you will see it on the market," global marketing director Nancy Teumer told WWD. "We don't want to open a channel and then disappoint because we can't deliver the product."
So what do you think of this? Would you get one?
